Annual Election of Directors and Officers:

The NAEA is currently seeking Energetic,” Highly Motivated, Individuals who are interested in and committed to best practice, resource sharing, research, and networking to benefit the youth and children we serve through alternative learning options,” to Serve on the NAEA Board of Directors.

The NAEA currently has Region Directors available. Region Director applicants must currently reside in the geographical area for the region they seek to represent.  Region Directors serve a two-year term with a two-year term limit. 

 

 Region Director Positions Available:

 

Region Director 1   (CT, ME, RI, MA, VT, NH, NY)

Region Director 3   (IN, KY, MI, OH, WV, TN)

Region Director 5   (IL, IA, MN, MO, WI)

Region Director 6   (AR, LA, OK, TX)

Region Director 7   (KS, NE, ND, SD, WY, CO)

Region Director 9   (AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, UT)

Ballot Rules

In order to qualify for a position on the Ballot, a Candidate for Office shall have documented experience in alternative education or not-for-profit operations as indicated below:

 

Experience in Alternative Education

 

Three (3) years of experience in a program, school, school district or similar organization, including a state education agency, Foundation, or Education Laboratory that provides or supports alternative education: These three (3) years of Experience in Alternative Education satisfies the full requirement for documented experience.

 

 

Experience in Not-for-profit Operations

 

One (1) year of experience in alternative education as specified in Experience in Alternative Education, above, is required. Three (3) years experience on the Board of Directors of a not-for-profit education organization, not specified above, may be substituted for one (1) year of Experience in Alternative Education up to a maximum of two (2) years of experience in Alternative Education.

 

Combination of Experience

 

One (1) year of experience in alternative education as specified in Experience in Alternative Education, above, is required. Three (3) years of experience as university faculty or author of authoritative research, analytic essays, or policy analysis on alternative education may be substituted for one (1) year of Experience in Alternative Education up to a maximum of two (2) years of Experience in Alternative Education.

The NAEA National Conference on Alternative Education will take place at the Dallas Addison Marriott Quorum, Dallas, Texas – March 5-7, 2018.

At this conference, the National Alternative Education Association (NAEA) will convene its annual meeting of the members (AMM) and conduct annual elections for vacant Region Director positions.

In accordance with the By Laws of the NAEA, the Nominating Committee Charter, the NAEA Policy for Elections, and the NAEA Procedures for Elections, the Nominating Committee will present a Ballot of Candidates for the positions to be filled to the Board of Directors no later than January 30, 2018. Members will vote for each office at the Assembly of the Members at the AMM. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor.
